New Year.... New Things

The new year always seems to bring new things into peoples life. New goals, new challenges, new desires, new resolution. The new year is also a great time to not only look forward but to spend a little time looking back at the last year.

As I spent a little time looking back over my last year I am overwhelmed with how differant it really was from what I expected. 12 months ago my wife had a major back surgery that we thought would take a few months to recover from, a those few months turned in 11(just a few more than a few). 12 months ago a little girl who we have now fostered for 8 months, and who is sooo much a part of our lives wasn't even born yet, much less someone we thought . 12 months ago I was 20 lbs lighter (dang it). 12 months ago we had no idea that we would find our teenage daughter would be diagnosed with a rare and severe form of Junivelle Arthitist. 12 months ago our oldest son was just getting his first car (even before he had his liscense). Those are just a few of the things that were significantly differant and challenaging in 2011.

2012 will bring new things into our lives that we weren't expecting and probably at times we will feel like we aren't ready for. Some of them will be things that we can control (like my extra 20 lbs) and some of them will be things that our completly out of our hands (like my daughters health). Regardless of the changes and challenges I am ready to see what our 2012 will look like and how the Lord will work despite my expectations.

  1. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Cor. 12:8-10
